Bouquet Boutique:

Creating Beauty, Community,

and Calm

In the heart of Lancaster’s Main Street, surrounded by a community of small and local businesses, Bouquet Boutique is a testament to Jamie Samson’s entrepreneurial journey.

Flowers and Artistry Were the Seeds of Inspiration

Jamie Samson, (mother of three), found the spark to start her business in a triad of inspirations - her lifelong love for flowers, a heartfelt commitment to helping others, and a passion for artistic expression. Having dedicated a decade to mental health services, she recognized the therapeutic power flowers held. Fond memories of gardening with her mom and hunting for wildflowers fueled Jamie's vision to create a business that would spread joy and solace through the beauty of blooms.

“I took these three things about me and decided the way to make the most positive impact in my community with flowers would be to own a flower shop.” - Jamie Samson, Owner of Bouquet Boutique

Overcoming Financial Hurdles with Community Support

Starting a business, however, is not that simple. Jamie's path was marked by financial challenges, the biggest one being funding for a rental space for a storefront. Undeterred, she sought creative solutions and discovered the Coös Economic Development Corporation (CEDC). Securing a pop-up business grant coupled with operational guidance provided Jamie with not just financial assistance but also a roadmap to success. With a robust business plan and budget, Bouquet Boutique began to blossom.

“I researched grants and saw a poster of the CEDC hanging in a window on Main Street. I called Ericka Canales, the Executive Director, and she was extremely knowledgeable and helpful to me in applying for a pop-up business grant. I can’t thank her enough for that.” - Jamie Samson, Owner of Bouquet Boutique

Rooted in Community Connection

What sets Bouquet Boutique apart is its strong ties to the local community in Lancaster. Jamie is an advocate for sustainable business models, using flowers grown by local farmers, and implementing environmentally friendly practices to recycle and reduce waste. Her commitment extends to offering seasonal floral design classes and using seasonal buds in special arrangements. Additionally, Jamie gives back to the community by sharing the beauty with those in need, often gifting flowers that are leftover from events to local nursing homes.

“I am a big fan of utilizing flowers grown by our local farmers. I largely admire their hard work and ability to grow such beauty that I am honored to use their stems in my arrangements and allow their flowers to be enjoyed by others in our area.” - Jamie Samson, Owner of Bouquet Boutique

“Enjoy the Process”: Bouquet Boutique’s Hard-Earned Success

For Jamie, the biggest milestone was the opening of Bouquet Boutique. Beyond the beautiful arrangements, this achievement symbolizes dedication, hard work, and the realization of a dream. Equally rewarding are the relationships built with customers, wholesalers, farmers, and the community at large. The business’ mission statement, "Enjoy the process," is a guiding principle in Jamie’s craft, emphasizing the beauty in every step of her entrepreneurial journey.

“We had our challenges and continue to run into bumps in the road constantly but it is all about the process for me. I try hard to enjoy the beautiful reality of my “every day” as it once was just a pipe dream of mine.” - Jamie Samson, Owner of Bouquet Boutique

For those looking to venture into the floral industry, Jamie's advice is simple yet profound: “Believe in yourself, stand your ground in your decisions, and don’t be afraid to adjust and reevaluate as you go.” In the face of self-doubt, Jamie emphasizes the importance of perseverance, reminding aspiring business owners that they can indeed thrive.

A Bright Future Ahead for Bouquet Boutique

Looking ahead, Bouquet Boutique has exciting plans on the horizon. Jamie envisions expanding class offerings, introducing more houseplants and gifts, and delving into wedding and event work for 2024. Her commitment to her business promises a future filled with growth, beauty, and, of course, joy.

“There are so many positives and for me, that is the important part. At the end of the day, I can say I enjoy what I do each day and feel very grateful and proud that I get to do so.” - Jamie Samson, Owner of Bouquet Boutique
