CEDC Joins Multiple Organizations to Address The Child Care Crisis
Working together to provide support for child care providers
Over the last several years CEDC has engaged in a variety of events and trainings to help address the growing impact of limited availability of childcare in our area. We recognize this is an issue that needs attention, and we have included it into our current strategic plan. Together with organizations including Coös County Director Network,The Coös Coalition for Young Children and Families, Community Development Finance Authority and Grafton Regional Development Corporation we have taken steps to help identify the issues behind this shortage. At this time there are only 4 Licensed Day Care Centers in the entire county. With that being the case, the majority of children in Coös receive care in Family Child Care settings. Family child care programs play a crucial role in supporting families and communities throughout New Hampshire. They offer a personalized and nurturing environment for children, helping them develop essential social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
However, setting up a safe and sustainable child care business in your home can be an intimidating process, so we asked, how can we help? And the answer became clear. We support local businesses, big and small, and child care providers ARE businesses. We began working with a number of organizations to educate ourselves on the needs of these providers. Combining our knowledge of the intricacies of small business with the regulatory “know how” of consultants with decades of experience in Early Childcare, our collaborative efforts helped pave the way for the development of a new resource for potential in-home Family Child Care providers. This Guide, as well as a numerous other resources are now available at: https://www.nhcommunitynavigator.org and were made possible by funding from Community Development Finance Authority
